Nobody can deny that this song is talking about adultery unless you're a little slow. This song made people think adultery was ok because it sort of glamarized adultery and yes alot of people were hurt by this. Even if some say it was about his addiction,we all know how the vast majority took it and the msg it conveyed to the listner. I think it was a very hurtful song....just my opinion.

Billy Paul never mentions adultery in this sing. He diplomatically says, "We got a thing going on" and "We've got to be extra careful." He artfully leads the listener to conclude the song is about Mrs. Jones, her lover and adultery. This is also a masterpiece of tacit implicity because without naming aduletry literally, the listener is likely to conclude it is about adultery. But how do we know it is not about Mr. Jones with a restrinig order meeting his with his reconciled wife?

This song makes adultery sound so sweet, but the consequences equal heartbreak, divorce, children out of wedlock and possibly a lifetime in hell without repentance. No thank you Mrs. Jones!
